  • How to Improve Backswing

Mastering your backswing is one of the vital elements you need to develop a great golf game.  If you do not have a good backswing you will have an extremely difficult time developing a good game.  While you will still be able to play golf without a perfect backswing in order to improve your entire game, you should improve your backswing.  Your backswing therefore is at least as important as your putting game.  As you improve your backswing remember the goal is not to increase power but to improve you form and distance. A good golf gps may also help you on the green. Read golf GPS reviews and find out which one is the top golf GPS right now.

Start with a good solid stance to begin your backswing.  A solid stance incorporates good posture, well fitting shoes, and proper alignment with the ball.  If your posture is poor you could twist at the wrong time or in an uncontrolled manner that might affect your club grip.  Added together these could be catastrophic to your backswing.  Remember a good solid stance is the first element to a good backswing which sets up a good follow through to complete your swing.

If you question how strong your stance is get some help in taking a picture of your stance.  Compare your stance to a photograph of a proper strong stance.  How does your stance compare?  You may want to consider taking some lessons.  A trained instructor will see things you may overlook and, more importantly, will be able to help you correct the problems.  It is important for you to build your golf game on a solid foundation of fundamental skills.  An instructor is the best way for you to get a knowledgeable critique and corrective instruction to improve your golf game and make it more fun.

After you correct your stance you must look at your grip.  If your grip is flawed your good stance and backswing will have very little effect on your score.  If you are holding the grip the wrong way, or overextending your grip you will have a poor backhand from the start.  Without holding your club properly with a solid grip you will not be able to have a good backswing.  It is physically impossible and you will have many frustrations in your game.  Sometimes a slight change in the position of your hands will have a dramatic effect on your performance.

Most players do not start their backswing properly.  When you move the club back you must remember to pull the club back from the ball, before you lift it off the ground.  Too many players mistakenly lift the club back and up when they start their backswing.  When you do this your back swing will not be smooth and lined up properly.  As you swing through from this bad backswing you cannot help but hit the ball off center, and have a poor shot.  Be sure you pull the club back from the ball and then start to lift it up.  You will notice an almost instantaneous improvement.   This movement is not at all unnatural, it simply takes a conscious effort in the beginning to make it habit.

So, when you address the ball you want to first be certain you have a good solid stance.  Then grip the club correctly.  Remember to pull your club away from the ball and then lift it up, to make a smooth backswing.  When all of these elements are in-place you follow through can’t help but be good and you will have a beautiful shot. As important as your swing is to your golf skill, choosing the right golf club is vital as well. Learn how to choose golf clubs and improve your game.
